Federated Search Framework

Federated Search takes a user's query and distributes it to multiple engines, and then combines all the results into a single list of matches presented to the user.

There are many public demos of federated search and "mashups" that do simple things like bring back results from Yahoo and Google, or media from Flickr and YouTube.  But when researchers and companies talk about Federated Search, they need industrial strength help, at a minimum:

  • Access to both web based and proprietary repositories
  • Full security credentials authorization and mapping
  • Automatic query syntax translation
  • A variety of ways to combine the results

New Idea Engineering offers several Federated Search solutions, based on your specific needs.  Some solutions feature a wide assortment of predefined connectors for popular research portals.  Other solutions provide a framework and API for interfacing with more specialized systems.
