Welcome to the new Enterprise Search!Welcome to the latest issue of Enterprise Search. We're now starting our fourth year of providing technical tips and techniques, industry news, and 'Ask Dr. Search'. This issue, the first of the new year, is full of firsts for us that we hope will be useful to you. You'll notice the new format for the newsletter as we switch to Constant Contact for distribution and mailing list management. We also have launched our first blog, which we believe is one of the few blogs that deal exclusively with Enterprise Search. Find it at http://www.enterprisesearchblog.com. We're also on the verge of providing this newsletter itself as an RSS feed, so those of you who wish to receive the newsletter via your favorite feed application will soon be able to do so. And finally, this issue marks the debut of our first survey. To thank you for spending a few minutes answering our questions, we will be selecting one responder to receive an Apple iPod Shuffle, perfect for jogging, walking around town, or just sitting quietly at your desk while you read our newsletters and blog postings. No wonder it's felt like such a busy year so far! Please let me know how you like our new newsletter and blog, and what we can do to make your job easier working with search. I always look forward to talking with other search-minded people.
Table of contents: March 2007What's New - March 2007: This month we have news of our new survey, as well as updates on the upcoming Enterprise Search Summit in New York, a new open source tool for result clustering and federation called Carrot2, a call for papers, and the growth of digital content. [More]. Enterprise Search Vendors in 2007: Another year has come and gone since we last prognosticated about the key Enterprise Search players (Transatlantic Titans Square Off in 2006). This month, Mark Bennett takes an updated look at the past year and looks forward to what 2007 may hold. He includes our own 'mini-quadrant' analysis based on our experience in the trenches at companies like yours. [More]. Interpreting Your Search Activity Reports: Miles Kehoe talks about what you should look for in each of the key search analytics reports that your vendor must by now be providing, and why each is important. You are reviewing your search analytics reports at least quarterly, yes? [More].Reviewing YOUR Search Engine Expectations: Mark Bennett talks about how your expectations may be causing your enterprise search application to look bad. A vast majority of companies already have one or more engines, and many are dissatisfied and shopping around. For example, we've seen cases where a client running Vendor A is thinking of moving to Vendor B, while other clients planning to move from Vendor B to Vendor A - both for essentially the same reasons. Don't do it! Read Mark's article.[More]. Dr. Search: Enabling search logging in FAST ESP: Dr. Search helps a reader who had FAST working fine using the fse application until he realized that no searches were being logged. Could you have the same problem? [More]. Remember to send your tough search questions to Dr. Search at support@ideaeng.com.
