Miles Kehoe, President New Idea Engineering, Inc.,
Editor of NIE Enterprise Search Newsletter

Welcome to the June 2005 edition of Enterprise Search, a free subscription-based newsletter that addresses the technical obstacles that challenge webmasters, engineers, IT Professionals, and content owners as they implement search technology in corporations and organizations. Enterprise Search is published by New Idea Engineering at 5255 Stevens Creek Blvd. #189, Santa Clara, California 95051. I've provided information on subscribing and unsubscribing at the end of this newsletter.

Mismatched Search Engine Woes: Since our earliest days, New Idea Engineering has been in the business of helping companies implement enterprise search. Usually we get involved when the installation didn't go quite right, or when there was a need for advanced features that are difficult to implement. Lately we've seen a change. We still get called in to implement advanced capabilities, or to help with installation and set-up; but it seems that more and more of the people we see have selected the wrong search technology for their requirements. [More].

Enterprise Search Matrix: Chances are good that if you work for a company large enough to purchase and operate any of the leading enterprise search vendor software, you're familiar with the famous Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Search. This month we introduce our own way of looking at corporate search solutions based on our experience installing, configuring, and maintaining enterprise search solutions: The NIE Enterprise Search Matrix. [More].

Parametric Search, Faceted Search, and Taxonomies: A hot new topic at this year's Enterprise Search conference in New York was faceted search, and how it compares tithe use of parametric search and taxonomies. In a sense, faceted search is a new spin on parametric search and taxonomy-based search. [More].

Dr. Search: This month, Dr. Search tells how you can use 'document quality' scores from your content management system to influence the ranking in Ultraseek. Contact Dr. Search with your questions at support@ideaeng.com. [More].
