What's New

Volume 5 Number 3 - April-May 2008

Microsoft and Fast complete the deal

Microsoft and FAST announced on company blogs that the deal initially proposed in January has closed, and FAST is now "FAST, a Microsoft Subsidiary". There was never much doubt, and by all accounts FAST will continue to market its full product line across all platforms. The real speculation now is what other enterprise search vendors are targets for acquisition as the consolidation continues.

Forrester announces Enterprise Search 2008 webinar

Research firm Forrester has announced a webinar scheduled for June 2 to present the Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Search Platforms, Q2 2008. Analyst Leslie Owens will present the webinar, which reports on Forrester's evaluation of 11 enterprise search vendors covering criteria from core architecture to vendor strategy. Like many vendors, we think of the Forrester Wave report as one of the 'big two' reports on the enterprise search marketplace. Register now and plan to attend.

CMS Watch publishes their Vendor landscape

CMS Watch has published their overview of the Enterprise Search Vendor Landscape Circa 2008 using a methodology that positions vendors on a grid where the axes are Product Development and Vendor Evolution. Interesting data points in the forecast: Autonomy and Oracle, Turbulence; Microsoft and IBM, Shifting; Google, on the border of Balance and Shifting. Also interesting: Endeca, ISYS, Exalead, Lucene, Coveo, and Recommind, noted as Balanced. The surprise? Mondosoft, acquired by Copenhagen company SurfRay last June, is listed as Shifting.
